Ko imaṁ pathaviṁ vicessati, Yamalokañca imaṁ sadevakaṁ; Ko dhammapadaṁ sudesitaṁ, Kusalo pupphamiva pacessati.
Who bestirs this earth, and the Yama realm with its gods? Who sets out the well-taught word of truth, as an expert a flower?
誰がこの大地を、そして神々の住まう夜摩の世界を覚醒せしめるのか。巧みな者が花を選り分けるように、誰が善く説かれた真理の言葉を明らかにするのか。

修行者はこの大地を鼓舞し、神々の住まう夜摩天をも揺り動かす。修行者は善く説かれた真理の言葉を、巧みな花師が花を選び整えるがごとく、見事に説き示すのである。

この身の泡沫の如きを知り、
その一切が蜃気楼に過ぎぬと悟り、
魔羅の花咲く矢を断ち切りて、
死王の眼より姿を消し去れ。

快楽に飽くことなく、花を摘み集めるがごとく諸欲に心を奪われている者を、死魔はその支配下に置くのである。

ちょうど色も香りも備えた見事な花のごとく、雄弁なる言葉もまた、これを実践する者にとって、豊かな果報をもたらすものである。

The fragrance of flowers doesn’t spread upwind, nor sandalwood, pinwheel, or jasmine; but the fragrance of the good spreads upwind; a true person’s virtue spreads in every direction.
花の香りは風上には漂わず、
栴檀も多伽羅も茉莉花もまた然り。
されど善き人の香りは風上にも薫り渡り、
真人の徳は四方八方に広く遍く及ぶ。
