「では、居士（こじ）の子よ、いかにして聖なる弟子（アリヤサーヴァカ）は六方を守護する者となるのでしょうか。
居士の子よ、この六つの方角を正しく知るべきであります。東の方角は父母と知るべく、南の方角は師（ācāriya）と知るべく、西の方角は妻子と知るべく、北の方角は朋友・知己と知るべく、下の方角は下男・下女・労働者と知るべく、上の方角は沙門（samaṇa）・婆羅門（brāhmaṇa）と知るべきであります。
居士の子よ、子は五つのことによって、東の方角たる父母に奉仕すべきであります。すなわち、『かつて我を養いたもうた父母を、今こそ我は養い奉らん』と思いつつ——」
