They arrested him and presented him to the king, saying, ‘Your Majesty, this person stole from others with the intention to commit theft.’ The king said to that person, But then another man stole something from others. So the king provided some money to that person, saying, ‘With this money, my friend, keep yourself alive, and provide for your mother and father, partners and children. 彼らはその者を捕らえ、灌頂を受けた刹帝利（カッティヤ）の王のもとへ連れて行き、こう申し上げた。「大王よ、この者は他人の与えぬものを盗みの意図をもって奪い取りました。」
比丘たちよ、このように申し上げられると、灌頂を受けた刹帝利の王はその者にこう言った。
また、比丘たちよ、別のある者もまた、他人の与えぬものを盗みの意図をもって奪い取った。そこで、比丘たちよ、灌頂を受けた刹帝利の王は、その者に財を与えてこう言った。
「友よ、この財をもって、汝自身も生きながらえよ。父母を養い、妻子を養い、生業に励め。そして沙門（サマナ）・婆羅門（バラモン）たちに対して、天上に生まれるための功徳となる清らかな布施（ダーナ）を行ずるがよい。」
