そこで、マハーゴーヴィンダ婆羅門（まはーごーゔぃんだばらもん）はレーヌ王のもとへ赴き、王と親しく挨拶を交わした。礼儀にかなった愛想よき言葉を交わし終えて、かたわらに座した。かたわらに座したマハーゴーヴィンダ婆羅門に、レーヌ王はこのように言った。
「さあ、ゴーヴィンダ殿よ、この大地を——北に広く、南は荷車の轅口（ながえぐち）のごとく狭まるこの大地を——七つに等しく、きれいに分けてくださらぬか。」
「かしこまりました、王よ。」
マハーゴーヴィンダ婆羅門はレーヌ王の言葉を受けて、北に広く南に荷車の轅口のごとく狭まるこの大地を分けた。その分けられた諸々の地はことごとく荷車の轅口のごとき形に整えられ、この大執事（まはーごーゔぃんだ）の手によって見事に配された。そして、かの六つの……
