在家の信者たちや……あるいは沙門（しゃもん）たちが転輪聖王（てんりんじょうおう）にまみえんと赴けば、その御姿を拝するだけで心は満たされ、その御言葉を聴くだけでまた心は満たされる。そして王が沈黙されると、なお飽き足りぬ思いが残るのである。
比丘たちよ、これと同じく、アーナンダには四つの希有（けう）にして未曾有の法がある。比丘（びく）の集いがアーナンダにまみえんと赴けば、その姿を見るだけで心は満たされ、その法（ダンマ）の言葉を聴くだけでまた心は満たされる。そしてアーナンダが沈黙すると、なお飽き足りぬ思いが残るのである。比丘尼（びくに）の集いが……また優婆塞（うばそく）の集いが……
