「さあ、皆さんよ、なぜ私がかの沙門ゴータマ（Samaṇo Gotamo）のもとへ参上するにふさわしいか、その理由をお聞きください。数千もの神々（devatā）が、命ある限りかの方を帰依処（saraṇa）として拠り所に定めております。……かの方には、このような麗しい名声（kittisaddo）が高らかに轟いております。『かの世尊（Bhagavā）は、阿羅漢（arahaṁ）にして、正しく完全に覚られた正等覚者（sammāsambuddho）、明知と行（vijjācaraṇa）とを具え備えた方、善逝（sugato）、世間を知り尽くした方（lokavidū）、調御されるべき人々を導く無上の御者（anuttaro purisadammasārathi）、神々と人間との師（satthā devamanussānaṁ）、目覚められた方（buddho）、世尊（bhagavā）である』と。……かの沙門ゴータマは、三十二の大人の相（dvattiṁsa mahāpurisa-lakkhaṇa）をことごとく備えておられます。……かの沙門ゴータマは、来たる者を温かく迎え、親しみやすく、礼儀正しく、常に微笑みをたたえ、心を開いておられます。」
