「大王よ、まさにこの現世において直接に見ることのできる沙門の果（さもんのか）として、これより勝れ、これより優れたものは、他に何もないのであります」
世尊がかくお説きになると、マガダ国の王、韋提希の子、阿闍世王（アジャータサットゥ）は、世尊に対してこのように申し上げた。
「尊とし、尊し（abhikkantaṁ）、世尊よ。たとえば、倒れたものを起こし、覆われたものを明らかにし、迷える者に道を示し、暗闇の中に油の灯火を掲げて、眼ある者が物を見ることができるようにするがごとく、世尊は、かくのごとくさまざまな方便（ほうべん）をもって、法（ダンマ）をあきらかにお説きくださいました。
世尊よ、われは今、仏陀（ブッダ）に帰依し奉ります」
