But some other individual here refrains from killing living creatures, stealing, committing sexual misconduct, or using speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. ところが、アーナンダよ、ここにある人があって、生き物を殺すことを離れ、与えられぬものを取ることを離れ、邪淫を離れ、虚偽を語ることを離れ、離間の言葉を離れ、粗暴な言葉を離れ、無益な言葉（綺語）を離れ、貪らず（不貪）、心に怒りなく（不瞋）、正見（sammādiṭṭhi）を具えている。
さてアーナンダよ、ここにある沙門（samaṇa）あるいは婆羅門（brāhmaṇa）があって、熱烈な努力（ātappa）をもって、勇猛な精進（padhāna）をもって、専心の修行（anuyoga）をもって、不放逸（appamāda）をもって、そして正しく心を作意（sammāmanasikāra）することをもって、心の三昧（cetosamādhi）にそのように入定し、清浄にして超人的な天眼（dibba cakkhu）を以てかの人を観ずる時――
