「師への親近奉仕（payirupāsanā）は、礼拝のために大いに役立つものです。……師への接近（upasaṅkamana）には、信（saddhā）が大いに役立ちます。もし信が生じなければ、師のもとへ赴くことはないでしょう。信が生じるがゆえに、師のもとへ赴くのです。それゆえに、師への接近には信が大いに役立つのです。」
「尊き方よ、ゴータマ様よ、私どもは真理の護持（saccānurakkhaṇa）についてお尋ねいたしました。ゴータマ様はそれに対してお答えくださいました。その御答えは私どもの心に適い、納得がまいりました。私どもはそれをもって満足しております。尊き方よ、ゴータマ様よ、かつて私どもはこのように思っておりました。『これら頭を剃った沙門（samaṇa）どもは何者であるか。賤しき者どもよ、黒い血筋の者どもよ、梵天の足より生まれし者の末裔より堕ちた者どもよ――』と。」
