1. On the Brahmin Emissaries So I have heard. It’s good to see such perfected ones.” At one time the Buddha was staying near Vesālī, at the Great Wood, in the hall with the peaked roof. # 婆羅門の使者たち
このように私は聞いた。
「そのような阿羅漢（あらかん）にまみえることは、まことに善きことである。」
あるとき、世尊（せそん）はヴェーサーリーの大林（だいりん）、重閣講堂（じゅうかくこうどう）に滞在しておられた。
そのころ、コーサラ国の婆羅門（ばらもん）の使者たちとマガダ国の婆羅門の使者たちが、何らかの用務のため、数多くヴェーサーリーに逗留していた。
彼らコーサラとマガダの婆羅門の使者たちは、次のような話を耳にした。
「伝え聞くところによれば、釈迦族（しゃかぞく）の出身にして釈迦族の家門を離れ出家された沙門（しゃもん）ゴータマが、ヴェーサーリーの大林、重閣講堂に滞在しておられるという。その尊きゴータマ師には、このような麗しき名声がある。『かの世尊は——』」と。
