“Mendicants, the Realized One, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha, is said to be the best of all sentient beings—be they footless, with two feet, four feet, or many feet; with form or formless; with perception or without perception or with neither perception nor non-perception. In the same way, all skillful qualities are rooted in diligence and meet at diligence, and diligence is said to be the best of them. All the great rivers—that is, the Ganges, Yamunā, Aciravatī, Sarabhū, and Mahī
比丘たちよ、如来・応供・正等覚者は、足なき者、二足の者、四足の者、多足の者、有色の者、無色の者、有想の者、無想の者、非想非非想の者を問わず、あらゆる有情の中において最勝と説かれる。これと同じく、すべての善法は不放逸を根本とし、不放逸に帰趨し、不放逸こそがそれらの中において最勝と説かれる。また、ガンジス河、ヤムナー河、アチラヴァティー河、サラブー河、マヒー河という大河はすべて——
