Then Venerable Puṇṇiya went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him: they actively listen to the teaching, but don’t remember the teaching they’ve heard … they remember the teaching they’ve heard, but don’t examine the meaning of the teachings they’ve remembered … they examine the meaning of the teachings they’ve remembered, but, not having understood the meaning and the teaching, they don’t practice in line with the principle of the teaching. The Realized One doesn’t feel
時に、尊者プンニヤは世尊のもとに詣で、礼拝して一方に坐し、次のように申し上げた。「法を熱心に聴聞しながらも、聴いた法を憶持しない者がおります。また、聴いた法を憶持しながらも、憶持した法の義を思惟しない者がおります。また、憶持した法の義を思惟しながらも、義と法を了解することなく、法の道理に従って実践しない者がおります。如来は感じられません——」
