And this power cannot be undermined by any human enemy. What five? A wheel-turning monarch’s oldest son knows what is right, knows principle, knows moderation, knows the right time, and knows the assembly. 比丘たちよ、五つの徳目を具えた転輪聖王の長子は、父王が起こした威力を、ただ法に則った形においてのみ、継承し行使し続ける。そしてその威力は、いかなる人間の敵によっても損なわれることがない。その五つとは何か。転輪聖王の長子は、正義を知り、法を知り、節度を知り、時機を知り、衆を知る。この五つの徳目を具えた転輪聖王の長子は、父王が起こした威力を、ただ法に則った形においてのみ、継承し行使し続けるのである。
