“Mendicants, there are these four kinds of overflowing merit, overflowing goodness. They nurture happiness and are conducive to heaven, ripening in happiness and leading to heaven. They lead to what is likable, desirable, agreeable, to welfare and happiness. What four? It’s when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha: ‘That Blessed One is perfected, a fully awakened Buddha, accomplished in knowledge and conduct, holy, knower of the world, supreme guide for those fit for train
比丘たちよ、溢れ出る功徳、溢れ出る善には、四種がある。それらは幸福を育み、天界へと導くものであり、安楽を果として熟し、天界へと至らしめる。それらは愛しく、望ましく、心地よいものへと、また利益と幸福へと導くものである。その四種とは何か。
まず、聖なる弟子が仏陀に対して体験に基づく浄信を有する場合である。すなわち、「かの世尊は、完全に煩悩を滅尽せる方、正しく完全に覚られた方、明行具足の方、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈夫、天人師、仏、世尊である」と。
