「仮に、そなたが戦陣に臨み、合戦の構えをなしているとしよう。そこへ、修練なく、技倆なく、資質なく、経験なき刹帝利の若者がやって来たとする。しかもその者は臆病で、怯えており、心乱れ、すぐさま逃げ出そうとしている。そなたはかかる者を召し使うであろうか。その者はそなたの役に立つであろうか」
「いいえ、世尊よ。それがしにはかかる者は無用にございます」
「では、同様の婆羅門の若者、農民の若者、あるいは賤民の若者についてはいかがか」
「いいえ、世尊よ。それがしにはかかる者もまた無用にございます」
