Standing to one side, the godling Anāthapiṇḍika recited these verses in the Buddha’s presence: When he said this, Venerable Ānanda said to the Buddha, “Sir, that godling must surely have been Anāthapiṇḍika. For the householder Anāthapiṇḍika was devoted to Venerable Sāriputta.” “Good, good, Ānanda. You’ve reached the logical conclusion, as far as logic goes. 傍らに立ちて、天神アナータピンディカは仏陀の御前にてこの偈を誦した。
かく申し上げた後、阿難尊者は仏陀に向かいて申し上げた。「世尊よ、その天神はまさしくアナータピンディカに相違ございますまい。なぜならば、長者アナータピンディカはサーリプッタ尊者に深く帰依しておりましたゆえに。」
「善きかな、善きかな、阿難よ。汝は論理の及ぶ限りにおいて、正しき結論に達したり。まことに、その天神こそアナータピンディカに他ならぬ。」
