At Sāvatthī. Then, late at night, the glorious godling Tāyana, formerly a religious founder, lighting up the entire Jeta’s Grove, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and recited these verses in the Buddha’s presence: “That’s what the godling Tāyana said. Then he bowed and respectfully circled me, keeping me on his right side, before vanishing right there. Mendicants, learn the verses of Tāyana! Memorize the verses of Tāyana! Remember the verses of Tāyana! These verses are beneficial
舎衛城にての事なり。深夜、かつて教祖として知られたる神霊ターヤナが、その輝かしき光明もて祇陀林全体を照らしながら、世尊のもとへと近づき、礼拝し、一方に立ちて、世尊の御前にて以下の偈を誦したり。「これぞ神霊ターヤナの説きたまいし言葉なり。」かくして彼は礼拝し、世尊を右方に奉じて恭しく右繞したる後、その場にて忽然と姿を消しぬ。「比丘たちよ、ターヤナの偈を学ぶべし。ターヤナの偈を受持すべし。ターヤナの偈を憶念すべし。これらの偈は、真に利益をもたらすものなり。」
