So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Vesālī, at the Great Wood, in the hall with the peaked roof. Then, late at night, the glorious Kokanadā, Pajjunna’s daughter, lighting up the entire Great Wood, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, and recited these verses in the Buddha’s presence: “Staying in the woods of Vesālī is the Buddha, best of creation. かくの如く我は聞けり。ある時、世尊はヴェーサーリーの近く、大林の重閣講堂に滞在しておられた。その夜更け、パッジュンナの娘にして光輝あるコーカナダーが、大林全体を照らし輝かせながら世尊のもとへと参り、礼拝してその傍らに立ち、世尊の御前にて以下の偈を誦した。「ヴェーサーリーの林に在すは、万物に秀でたる覚者にして、我はパッジュンナの娘、コーカナダーと申す者、この御方を礼拝し奉る。かつては、かの覚れる者によって証得された教えを、ただ伝え聞くのみであったが――」
