At one time Venerable Pilindavaccha had a certain disease. The doctors said he needed a heated concoction of oil. “I allow a heated concoction of oil.” They wanted to add alcohol to that concoction. “I allow alcohol in a heated concoction of oil.” Soon afterwards the monks from the group of six heated oil with too much alcohol. They drank it and became drunk. “You shouldn’t drink heated oil with too much alcohol. If you do, you should be dealt with according to the rule. I allow you to drink heated oil if there is no discernible color, smell, or taste of alcohol.”
