But that individual has been reborn in hell. This is the first lost opportunity for spiritual practice. Furthermore, a Realized One has arisen in the world. But that individual has been reborn in the animal realm. This is the second lost opportunity for spiritual practice. Thinking: ‘They did wrong to me,’ you harbor resentment. しかるに、かの人は地獄（niraya）に生まれ堕ちている。これが、清浄行（brahmacariya）を修める機会を失える第一の悪時（akkhaṇa）である。
またさらに、友よ、如来（tathāgata）――阿羅漢（arahaṁ）にして正等覚者（sammāsambuddha）――がこの世に出現したもうた。そして、寂静に導き、涅槃（parinibbāna）に向かい、正覚（sambodhi）へといたる法が、善逝（sugata）によって説き示されている。しかるに、かの人は畜生界（tiracchānayoni）に生まれ堕ちている。これが、清浄行を修める機会を失える第二の悪時である。
「かの者はわれに対して非道を行えり」と思いて、怨恨（āghāta）を抱く。
またさらに……かの人は餓鬼の境界（pettivisaya）に生まれ堕ちている。これが、清浄行を修める機会を失える第三の悪時である。
