Next, someone gives to ascetics or brahmins such things as food, drink, clothing, vehicles; garlands, fragrance, and makeup; and bed, house, and lighting. またここに、ある者が沙門（さもん）あるいは婆羅門（ばらもん）に対して、食物・飲み物・衣服・乗り物・花鬘（けまん）・香料・塗香（ずこう）・臥具・住処・燈明などを施与（せよ）する。しかし彼は、施したものに対して見返りを期待するのである。「わたしにはなすべき仕事があろう。しかし仕事をしている間、身体は疲れてしまうだろう。さあ、横になって休もう」と。彼はまた、こう聞いていた。「梵衆天（ぼんしゅうてん）の諸天（しょてん）は、長命にして美しく、楽しみに満ちている」と。そこで彼はかく思う。「ああ、願わくはわたしが身体の壊滅ののち、死後において、梵衆天の諸天の仲間に生まれ得んことを」と。彼はその心（こころ）をそこに定め、その心をそこに決する——
