Victory breeds enmity. The loser mourns their money. There is immediate loss of wealth. A gambler’s word carries no weight in public assembly. Friends and colleagues treat them with contempt. And no-one wants to marry a gambler, for they think: ‘This individual is a gambler—they’re not able to support a partner.’ These are the six drawbacks of habitually gambling. 9. 勝利は怨恨を生む。敗者は財を失いて嘆く。眼前の財産は失われる。賭博を事とする者の言葉は、人々の集いにおいて重みをもたぬ。友人・知人はこれを軽んじ蔑む。婚姻を望む者もいない。「この人物は賭博者である——妻を養う力などあるまい」と人々は思うからである。
これらこそが、賭博放逸（jūtappamāda）に耽溺することによって生じる六つの過患（ādīnava）である。
九、悪友（pāpamittā）に伴う六つの過患
長者の子よ、悪友に親しむことによって生じる六つの過患がある。放蕩者、酒に溺れる者、渇愛に駆られる者、詐欺を謀る者、人を欺く者、無謀にして乱暴な者——こうした者たちが友となり、伴侶となるのである。
これらこそが、悪友（pāpamittā）に親しむことによって生じる六つの過患である。
