Thus it is said: ‘Seeing, one does not see.’ But that saying of Uddaka’s is low, crude, ordinary, ignoble, and pointless, as it’s only about a razor. If there’s anything of which it may be rightly said: ‘Seeing, one does not see,’ it’s of this that it should be said. Seeing what does one not see? One sees this: a spiritual path endowed with all good qualities, complete in all good qualities, neither too little nor too much, well explained, whole, full, and well propounded. かくの如く説かれている——「見ながら、見えず」と。しかるにチュンダよ、ウッダカ・ラーマプッタの語ったその言葉は、剃刀のことのみを指してのものであり、卑しく、粗野にして、凡夫（ぼんぷ）の言葉であり、聖なるものに非ず、益をもたらさぬものである。
もし「見ながら、見えず」と正しく語りうるものがあるとすれば、まさにこれについてこそ、正しく語られるべきである。
では、何を見ながら、見えないというのか。
かくの如く見るのである——一切の徳目（くどく）を具え、一切の徳目において円満にして、過不足なく、よく説き示された、完全にして満ち足り、よく宣揚された梵行（ぼんぎょう、清浄なる修行の道）を。
そしてチュンダよ、この世に現れたる教団（サンガ）であれ、集い（ガナ）であれ、あらゆるものの中において……
