and a third time they did the same thing, and were told not to continue. Vāseṭṭha saw him and said to Bhāradvāja, “Reverend Bhāradvāja, the Buddha is walking mindfully in the open air, beneath the shade of the longhouse. Come, reverend, let’s go to the Buddha. Hopefully we’ll get to hear a Dhamma talk from him.” “Yes, reverend,” replied Bhāradvāja. So they went to the Buddha, bowed, and walked beside him. 10. The Elected King Then those beings gathered together and bemoaned,
三度にわたって、かの衆生はまた同じことを行い、そのたびに慎むよう告げられた。
ヴァーセッタはその夕べ、世尊が独坐（パティサッラーナ）より出でて、僧房より降り、僧房の陰となった露地を経行（キンヒン）しておられるのを見た。見てのち、バーラドヴァージャに語りかけた。
「友よ、バーラドヴァージャよ、世尊はいま夕暮れどき、独坐より出でて僧房より降り、僧房の陰なる露地を経行しておられます。さあ、友よ、ともに世尊のもとへ参りましょう。願わくは、世尊より法（ダンマ）にかなえる御教えを聴聞する機縁を得られましょうから。」
「さようでございます、友よ」と、バーラドヴァージャは答えた。
かくして二人は世尊のもとへと赴き、礼拝し奉り、世尊のかたわらに付き従って歩んだ。
十 選ばれし王
そのとき、かの衆生たちは一堂に集い、嘆き悲しんで語り合った。
