Among the humans who lived for 1,000 years, wrong view became widespread. For the sentient beings among whom wrong view was widespread, their lifespan and beauty declined. Those people who lived for 1,000 years had children who lived for five hundred years. Among the humans who lived for five hundred years, three things became widespread: illicit desire, immoral greed, and wrong custom. 比丘たちよ、寿命千歳の人々の間に、邪見（micchādiṭṭhi）が広まった。邪見の広まった衆生たちは、その寿命もまた衰え、その容色もまた衰えた。かくして寿命が衰え容色が衰えゆく中、千歳を生きた人々の子らは、五百歳の寿命を持つ者となった。
比丘たちよ、寿命五百歳の人々の間に、三つの法（dhamma）が広まった。すなわち、道に外れた欲情（adhammarāga）、不正なる貪欲（visamalobha）、そして邪なる慣わし（micchādhamma）である。これら三つの法が広まった衆生たちは、その寿命もまた衰え、その容色もまた衰えた。
