Then those wanderers fell silent. Then Sandhāna went up to the wanderer Nigrodha, and exchanged greetings with him. すると、それらの遊行者（パリッバージャカ）たちは沈黙した。
そのとき、サンダーナ長者はニグローダ遊行者のもとへ近づき、ニグローダ遊行者と挨拶を交わした。懐かしき言葉、記憶すべき言葉を互いに交わし終えて、かたわらに坐した。かたわらに坐したサンダーナ長者は、ニグローダ遊行者にこのように語りかけた。
「これら他の教えに属する遊行者たちが、集まり会して喧しく声高に騒ぎ立て、種々の世俗的な話（ティラッチャーナカター）に耽っておられる様は、まことに一様のことであります。しかしながら、かの世尊が、人里離れた森林の辺境、静寂にして閑かな、喧騒を離れ、人の往来なき遠き住処（アーラニャ）に親しまれる様は、それとはまったく異なるものであります。」
