そのとき、世尊はウドゥンバリカーの遍歴行者（へんれきぎょうじゃ）の園において獅子吼（ししく）を発し、虚空に舞い上がって鷲の峰（ギッジャクータ）に降り立たれた。一方、居士（こじ）サンダーナはそのまま直ちにラージャガハへと戻っていった。
遍歴行者ニグローダは、居士サンダーナが遠くからやって来るのを目にした。それを見て、彼は自らの集いを制して言った。「皆よ、静かにされよ、声を立ててはならぬ。沙門ゴータマの弟子である居士サンダーナが来られる――
