「尊者よ、私はかつてこのように聞いたことがあります。老いて年老いた長老の遊行者（パリッバージャカ）たちが語っておりました——『過去世において存在された阿羅漢（アラハント）にして正等覚（サンマーサンブッダ）たる世尊方は、今の私どもの師の流儀のように、集い会して喧騒を極め、高声大声をあげ、さまざまな無益な俗談（ティラッチャーナカター）にふけって過ごされるようなことはなかった。かの世尊方は、今日の世尊と同じく、森林の辺境にある閑静な住処（セーナーサナ）——声少なく、喧騒なく、人里離れ、人目を避けるに相応しく、独坐（パティサッラーナ）に適した——そのような処所を常住の地とされたのである』と」
