彼らは自らの見解（見）に執着（パラーマーサ）せず、それをかたく握りしめることなく、よく手放すことができる。かくして彼らは、その点において清浄（パリスッダ）である。
「ニグローダよ、汝はいかに思うか。もしそのようであるならば、罪を厭い離れんとする熱誠なる苦行（タポジグッチャー）は、清浄であるか、それとも清浄でないか。」
「まことに、尊師よ、もしそのようであれば、苦行は清浄であります。最高の境地（アッガ）に達し、真髄（サーラ）に達したものと存じます。」
「否、ニグローダよ。その段階において、苦行はいまだ最高の境地に達せず、真髄に達したとも言えぬ。それはただ、萌芽（パパティカ）の域にとどまるに過ぎない。」
かくして彼らは、その点において清浄である。
さらにまた、ニグローダよ、苦行を修する者（タパッシー）は、瞋恚（コーダ）なく、怨恨（ウパナーハ）を抱かず――
