“Let’s bind Pāṭikaputta with straps and drag him with a pair of oxen!” But either the straps will break or Pāṭikaputta will.’ that Pāṭikaputta had lost, he returned to the assembly and said, ‘Pāṭikaputta has lost, worthies.’ When he said this, I said to the assembly, ‘Pāṭikaputta is not capable of meeting me face to face, otherwise his head may explode. 「パーティカプッタを革紐で縛り、一対の牡牛をもって引き出してやろう」と。されど、その革紐が断ち切れるか、さもなくばパーティカプッタ自身が断ち切れるかのいずれかであろう、と。
かくして彼は、パーティカプッタが（勝負に）敗れたることを告げに集会に戻り、こう申し述べた。「諸賢よ、パーティカプッタは敗れたり。かの裸行者（acelaka）パーティカプッタは、『参ろう、友よ、参ろう、友よ』と言いながら、その場を這いずるばかりにて、座より立ち上がることさえ能わざりき」と。
かく言われたとき、バッガヴァよ、わたくしはその集会に向かってこう告げた。「諸賢よ、かの裸行者パーティカプッタは、わたくしと面と向かって相まみえることは能わざるなり。もし相まみえんとするならば、その頭は砕け散るであろう。たとえリッチャヴィの諸賢がたとえ、革紐をもって縛り牡牛にて引き出さんと思うとも——」
そののち、バッガヴァよ、木鉢の沙門（dārucīrika）の弟子ジャーリヤが立ち上がり、集会に向かってかく告げた。かの沙門は——
