After the meal, on my return from almsround, I went to Pāṭikaputta’s monastery for the day’s meditation. Then Sunakkhatta rushed into Vesālī to see the very well-known Licchavis and said to them, ‘Respectable sirs, after his almsround, the Buddha has gone to Pāṭikaputta’s monastery for the day’s meditation. 食後、托鉢（たくはつ）より戻りたる後、われはパーティカプッタの園林（おんりん）へと赴き、昼の禅定（ぜんじょう）に入った。そのとき、リッチャヴィ族の子スナッカッタは、急ぎ足にヴェーサーリーの城内へと入り、名だたるリッチャヴィの人々のもとへ赴いて、こう告げた。
「諸賢（しょけん）よ、世尊（せそん）はただいま托鉢よりお戻りになり、パーティカプッタの園林へと昼の禅定のために赴かれました。さあ、皆さま、お出かけください。聖なる沙門（しゃもん）たちによる、人智を超えた神通（じんつう）の示現（じげん）があることでしょう。」
かくして、名だたるリッチャヴィの人々は思った。「いかにも、人智を超えた神通の示現があるに違いない……」
