For by means of a simile some sensible people understand the meaning of what is said. provide that man with costly garlands, makeup, and clothes, and they’d do so. Then you’d tell them to bring that man up to the stilt longhouse and set him up with the five kinds of sensual stimulation, and they’d do so. What do you think, chieftain? 「たとえ話によって、賢明な人々はその意味を理解するものです。それでは、その男に高価な花輪と高価な塗香（ずこう）と高価な衣服を与えなさい」と仰せになれば、人々はその男に高価な花輪と高価な塗香と高価な衣服を捧げるでしょう。そして、「その男を高殿（こうでん）に上らせ、五欲（ごよく）の楽しみをもって仕えなさい」と仰せになれば、人々はその男を高殿に上らせ、五欲の楽しみをもって仕えるでしょう。族長（ぞくちょう）よ、どのようにお考えになりますか。その男は、よく沐浴し、よく塗香を施し、髪と髭を整え、花輪と装飾品を身に纏い、白衣を着て、五欲（pañcakāmaguṇa）の楽しみを十分に与えられ……
