「この邪見（じゃけん）を捨て去りなさい、族長よ、この有害なる邪見を捨て去りなさい。長きにわたって、みずからの不利益と苦（く）をまねくことのなきよう。」
さて、族長よ、その火を祀る結髪の修行者（じゃてるの沙門）はこのように思った。「あの隊商の野営地へ行ってみようではないか。もしかすれば、そこで何か役に立つものが得られるかもしれぬ。」
そこで彼は、夜明けの早い時刻に起き出して、その野営地へと赴いた。赴いてみると、野営地に一人の幼い男の子が、無力なまま仰向けに寝かされ、捨て置かれているのを目にした。それを見て、彼はこのように思った。
「尊者カッサパ（Kassapa）はそのようにおっしゃるけれども、それでも私はこの有害なる邪見を捨て去ることができない。コーサラ（Kosala）国のパセーナディ（Pasenadi）王もわが見解をご存知であり、他国の王侯たちもまた然りである。もし私がこれを捨て去るならば……」
