「この方法によっても、王族の方よ、来世はあり、化生（けしょう）の衆生はあり、善悪の業にはその果報（かほう）があると、証明されるべきであります」
かつて、王族の方よ、ある法螺貝（ほらがい）吹きが、法螺貝を携えて辺境の地へと旅立ちました。彼はある村へと近づき、村の中ほどに立って三度法螺貝を高らかに吹き鳴らしました。そして貝を地に置き、かたわらに座りました。すると、王族の方よ、その辺境の地の人々はこのように思いました。「おや、これはいったい何の音であろうか。何とも心を揺さぶり、魂を引き込み、酔わせ、惑わせ、心を奪うような音ではないか」と。人々は法螺貝吹きのもとへと集まってきました——
