‘Well then, sirs, take this man’s life without damaging his outer skin, inner skin, flesh, sinews, bones, or marrow. Hopefully we’ll see his soul escaping.’ They agree, and do what I ask. When he’s nearly dead, I tell them to lay him on his back in hope of seeing his soul escape. They do so. But we don’t see his soul escaping. I tell them to lay him bent over, to lay him on his side, to lay him on the other side;
「それならば、諸君、この男の外皮・内皮・肉・筋・骨・骨髄を傷つけることなく、命（ジーヴァ）を絶ってください。うまくすれば、命（ジーヴァ）が抜け出るところを見られるかもしれません」と私は申しました。彼らは「よろしゅうございます」と答えて、その男の外皮・内皮・肉・筋・骨・骨髄を傷つけることなく、命を絶ちました。その男が死に瀕したとき、私はこう申しました。「それならば、諸君、この男を仰向けに寝かせてください。うまくすれば、命（ジーヴァ）が抜け出るところを見られるかもしれません」と。彼らはその男を仰向けに寝かせました。しかし、私どもには命（ジーヴァ）が抜け出るところは見えませんでした。そこで私は、うつ伏せに寝かせるよう、横向きに寝かせるよう、また反対の向きに寝かせるよう命じました。
