「来世はある。（opapātika）化生の衆生はある。善悪の業（カルマ）にはその果報（phala vipāka）がある――と、私はそのように信じております。あなた方は私が信頼し帰依する方々ですから、あなた方がご覧になったことは、私が自らの目で見たのと同じことでございましょう」と。彼らは「よろしゅうございます」と承諾しながら、戻ってきて告げることもなく、また使者を遣わすこともありません。カッサパよ、これこそが、私が「来世はない」と確信するに至る理由の一つなのです。
