世尊のお答えを拝聴して、私はここに疑惑（kaṅkhā）を超え、迷いを去ることができました」と。
「神々の主（devānaminda）よ、眼によって識られる色（rūpa）について、わたしは二種があると説く。——修習すべきものと、修習すべからざるものとである。耳によって識られる声（sadda）についても、神々の主よ、わたしは二種があると説く。鼻によって識られる香（gandha）についても、神々の主よ、二種があると説く。舌によって識られる味（rasa）についても、神々の主よ、二種があると説く」と。
かくして神々の主サッカ（Sakka）は、世尊のお言葉を歓喜し、随喜して、さらに世尊に問いを申し上げた。
「神々の主よ、いや、しからず。すべての沙門・婆羅門（samaṇabrāhmaṇā）が究極の完成（accantaniṭṭhā）に達しているわけではない」と。「それはなぜでありましょうか」と。「渇愛（taṇhā）の滅尽によって解脱した沙門・婆羅門たちこそが、究極の……に到達しているのである」と。
