「そして、最低限のところでは、彼らは乾闥婆（かんだつば）の衆に加わることとなった。
パンチャシーカよ、私はそれを記憶している。かの時、私はバラモンの大執事（マハーゴーヴィンダ）であった。そして私はかの弟子たちに、梵天（ぼんてん）の衆とともに生まれることへの道を説いた。
しかしながら、パンチャシーカよ、私のその清浄行（ぼんぎょう・梵行）は、厭離（えんり・nibbidā）へと導かず、離欲（りよく・virāga）へと導かず、滅尽（めつじん・nirodha）へと導かず、寂静（じゃくじょう・upasama）へと導かず、勝智（しょうち・abhiññā）へと導かず、正覚（しょうがく・sambodha）へと導かず、涅槃（ねはん・nibbāna）へと導くものではなかった。それはただ、梵天界（ぼんてんかい）への再生へと導くに過ぎなかった。
ところが、この清浄行こそは、ひとえに厭離へと導き、離欲へと導き、滅尽へと導き、寂静へと導き、勝智へと導き、正覚へと導き、涅槃へと導くものである。」
