「よろしい。私にはすでに、諸君のお陰で豊かな財産がある。しかしそのすべてを捨てて、私は在家の生活を離れ、出家（パッバジャー）いたしましょう。」
「三十三天（ターヴァティンサ）の善き神々よ、どのようにお考えか。かの世尊（バガヴァー）は、いかに多くの人々の利益（アッタ）と幸福（スカ）のために、世を憐れむ心をもって、神々と人間との利益・幸福・安楽のために歩まれてきたことか。このように多くの人々の利益と幸福のために、世を憐れむ心をもって、神々と人間との利益・幸福・安楽のために歩まれ、かかる徳（アンガ）を具えた師（サッター）は、過去においても現在においても、かの世尊を除いて、他には見出されない。
「もしゴーヴィンダ大臣（マハーゴーヴィンダ）が在家の生活を離れて出家するならば、われらもまた……」
