黄金の欄干（らんかん）には黄金の柱が立ち、銀の横木と頂飾りが施されていた。銀の欄干には銀の柱が立ち、黄金の横木と頂飾りが施されていた。その蓮池（ポッカラニー）は七重の棕櫚（たやし）の並木に取り囲まれていた。
アーナンダよ、その棕櫚の並木が風に揺れるとき、その音は優美にして、心を惹きつけ、耳に心地よく、人の魂をとろかすものであった。
アーナンダよ、それはあたかも、よく鍛錬され、よく調和し、熟達した奏者たちによって奏でられる五種の楽器（パンチャンギカ・トゥーリヤ）の音が、優美にして、心を惹きつけ、耳に心地よく、人の魂をとろかすものであるのと、ちょうど同じであった。
そしてかのクサーヴァティーの都において、その時もし耽溺する者あり、享楽に身をゆだねる者あり、あるいは酔いに沈む者あらば、その者たちはことごとく……
