The golden stairs had posts of gold, and banisters and finials of silver. The silver stairs had posts of silver, and banisters and finials of gold. 黄金の階段には黄金の柱があり、銀の手すりと飾り頭（うのはな）が設けられていた。銀の階段には銀の柱があり、黄金の手すりと飾り頭が設けられていた。瑠璃（ヴェルーリヤ）の階段には瑠璃の柱があり、水晶の手すりと飾り頭が設けられていた。
そのとき、アーナンダよ、マハースダッサナ王の心にこのような思いが起こった。「そうだ、大荘厳（マハーヴィユーハ）の重閣（クーターガーラ）の門前に、一面黄金の棕櫚（たやし）の林を造り設けよう。そこに昼の憩い（ディヴァーヴィハーラ）のために座するとしよう」と。
