そのとき、バラモンたちや在家信者たちは、マハースダッサナ王のもとへ近づき、こう申し上げた。「どうか急がれませぬよう、陛下。そうすれば、われらはより長くお姿を拝することができましょう。」
第四節 法殿（ダンマパーサーダ）の蓮華池
そのとき、アーナンダよ、マハースダッサナ王の御心にこのような思いが浮かんだ。
――瑠璃（ヴェールリヤ）の階段には瑠璃の柱があり、水晶の手すりと頂飾りとを備えていた。水晶の階段には水晶の柱があり、瑠璃の手すりと頂飾りとを備えていた。
これらの蓮華池は、アーナンダよ、二重の欄楯（らんじゅん）によって取り囲まれていた。一つは黄金よりなる欄楯、一つは白銀よりなる欄楯であった。黄金の欄楯には黄金の柱があり、白銀の手すりと頂飾りとを備えていた。
