The Mallas of Pāvā also heard that the Buddha had become fully quenched at Kusinārā. They sent an envoy to the Mallas of Kusinārā: “The Buddha was an aristocrat and so are we. We too deserve a share of the Buddha’s relics. パーヴァーのマッラ族もまた、「世尊はクシナーラーにて般涅槃（パリニッバーナ）に入られた」との報せを耳にした。そこでパーヴァーのマッラ族は、クシナーラーのマッラ族のもとへ使者を遣わしてこう申し入れた。「世尊はクシャトリヤ（刹帝利）の出にましまし、われらもまたクシャトリヤの族である。われらもまた世尊の舎利（サリーラ）の分与を受ける資格がある。われらもまた世尊の舎利のために仏塔（ストゥーパ）を建立し、盛大なる供養を行いたいと思う」と。
また、マガダ国王アジャータサットゥ（阿闍世）・ヴェーデーヒープッタもまた、クシナーラーのマッラ族のもとへ使者を遣わしてこう申し入れた。「世尊はクシャトリヤの出にましまし、余もまたクシャトリヤの身である。余もまた世尊の舎利の分与を受ける資格がある。余もまた世尊の舎利のために仏塔を建立し、盛大なる供養を行いたいと思う」と。
