“The Buddha was an aristocrat and so are we. We too deserve a share of the Buddha’s relics. We will build a monument for them and conduct a memorial service.” The Koliyans of Rāmagāma also heard that the Buddha had become fully quenched at Kusinārā. 「世尊はクシャトリヤ（刹利）のご出身、我らもまたクシャトリヤである。我らもまた世尊の遺骨（舎利）の分与を受ける資格がある。我らも世尊の舎利のために卒塔婆（ストゥーパ）を建立し、盛大なる供養の儀を執り行うであろう。」
ラーマ村のコーリヤ族もまた、「世尊はクシーナーラーにて般涅槃（パリニッバーナ）に入られた」との報せを聞き及んだ。そこでラーマ村のコーリヤ族は、クシーナーラーのマッラ族のもとへ使者を遣わした。世尊がクシーナーラーにて般涅槃に入られたことを伝え、こう申し入れたのである。
「世尊はクシャトリヤのご出身、我らもまたクシャトリヤである。我らもまた世尊の舎利の分与を受ける資格がある。我らも世尊の舎利のために卒塔婆を建立し、盛大なる供養の儀を執り行うであろう。」
ヴェッタドゥーパのバラモンもまた、「世尊は……」との報せを聞き及んだ。
