Teaching the Discourse on Mahāsudassana When he said this, Venerable Ānanda said to the Buddha: “Sir, please don’t be fully extinguished in this little hamlet, this jungle hamlet, this branch hamlet. There are other great cities such as Campā, Rājagaha, Sāvatthī, Sāketa, Kosambī, and Varanasi. Let the Buddha be fully extinguished there. There are many well-to-do aristocrats, brahmins, and householders there who are devoted to the Buddha. They will perform the rites of venerating the Realized
32．マハースダッサナ経の教説
かく申し上げると、尊者アーナンダは世尊にこのように言上した。
「世尊よ、どうか世尊は、この小さな町、この辺鄙な町、この枝葉の町において般涅槃（パリニッバーナ）に入られませんように。世尊よ、他にも大きな都城がございます。すなわち、チャンパー、ラージャガハ、サーヴァッティー、サーケータ、コーサンビー、バーラーナシーがそれでございます。どうか世尊はそこにおいて般涅槃に入られますように。そこには如来（タターガタ）に深く帰依する、富裕な刹帝利（クシャトリヤ）の長老たち、婆羅門（バラモン）の長老たち、居士（がじ）の長老たちが多くおります。かの方々は如来の御遺体を供養する諸儀式を行うことでございましょう。」
「アーナンダよ、そのようには言ってはならない。アーナンダよ、そのようには言ってはならない。『小さな町、辺鄙な……』などと。」
