「では、尊者よ、あなたは意識があり、目覚めておられながら、天が雨を降らせ、轟音を響かせ、稲妻が走り、雷が裂けるように鳴り響いても、何も見えず、また音も聞こえなかったと、そのようにおっしゃるのですか」
「そのとおりです、友よ」
「尊者よ、たった今、天が雨を降らせ、轟音を響かせ、稲妻が走り、雷が裂けるように鳴り響き、兄弟である二人の農夫が命を落とし、四頭の耕牛もまた斃れました。それゆえ、この大勢の人々がここに集まっているのです。ところで尊者よ、あなたはどこにおられたのですか」
「友よ、私はまさにここにおりました」
「では尊者よ、何かご覧になりましたか」
「友よ、私は何も見ませんでした」
「では尊者よ、何か——」
