「尊者よ、あなたの上衣（サンガーティ）まで、塵（ちり）にまみれておりますが。」「さようでございます、友よ。」するとその人はこう思った。「ああ、なんと不思議なことか、なんと希有（けう）なことか。出家（しゅっけ）された方々は、かくも寂静（じゃくじょう）なる禅定（ぜんじょう）に住しておられる。意識あり、目覚めておられながら、五百台もの荷車が間近を次々と通り過ぎるのを、目にも留めず、その音をも聞かれなかったとは。」そしてアーラーラ・カーラーマへの深い浄信（じょうしん）を表して、その場を去っていった。」
