「アーナンダよ、これが如来にとって、ヴェーサーリーを見る最後となるであろう。さあアーナンダよ、バンダガーマへ向かおう。」「かしこまりました、尊師よ」と、尊者アーナンダは世尊にお答え申し上げた。
比丘（びく）たちよ、ここにおいてある比丘がこのように語るとする。――それゆえ比丘たちよ、汝らはそれを捨て去るべきである。もしそれが諸々の経（きょう）に照らして符合し、律（りつ）において示されているならば、汝らはここにおいてこのような結論に至るべきである。「まさしくこれは彼の世尊の御言葉（みことば）であり、それらの長老たちによって正しく受持（じゅじ）されたものである」と。比丘たちよ、これを第三の大教示（マハーパデーサ）として心に保つべきである。
