リッチャヴィたちはアンバパーリーに向かってこう言った。「なんと、アンバパーリーよ、そなたは我々の車軸に車軸を、車輪に車輪を、軛に軛をぶつけて行き過ぎようというのか。」「皆さま、それはこういうわけでございます。明日の食事に、比丘僧伽（びくそうぎゃ）とともに世尊をお招き申し上げたのでございます。」「アンバパーリーよ、その食事の席を、十万金で我々に譲れ。」「皆さま、たとえヴェーサーリーの町をその周辺の地ごとお与えくださるとおっしゃっても、その食事の席を皆さまにお譲りすることはいたしません。」するとリッチャヴィたちは指を鳴らして言った。「やれやれ、この芒女（もうじょ）に一本取られた。この芒女に一本取られたわい。」
