As long as the mendicants share without reservation any material things they have gained by legitimate means, even the food placed in the alms-bowl, using them in common with their ethical spiritual companions, they can expect growth, not decline. 比丘たちよ、比丘たちが法にかなった方法によって得た財物を——たとえ鉢の中に収まるほどのわずかなものであれ——惜しみなく分かち合い、戒（シーラ）を守る清浄行（ぼんぎょう）の同行者たちとともに共有して用いるかぎり、比丘たちよ、比丘たちには衰退なく、ただ興隆のみが期待されるのである。
比丘たちよ、比丘たちが、清浄行の同行者たちとともに守られる戒（シーラ）——すなわち、破れることなく、欠けることなく、汚点なく、斑点なく、束縛を離れ（ぼんじゅ）、智慧ある人々に称讃され、執着されることなく、三昧（サマーディ）へと導くような、かかる戒——において、公の場においても独処においても、同行者たちとともに戒の一致に住するかぎり、比丘たちよ、比丘たちには衰退なく、ただ興隆のみが期待されるのである。
